Red Leaves, Autumn Mountains

Red Leaves, Autumn Mountains

Rust red tints the horizon as serrated peaks rise and sink in a sea of cloud; a few gnarled pines cling to a precipice in front, the autumn air crisp and solemn.

Using the colored-ink landscape manner, wet washes spread the mist while dry, textured strokes raise the cliffs’ bones; ochre-red set against gray-black sharpens the cool–warm tension of autumn. The composition joins lofty and deep distance: orange‑ochre ranges flicker afar, heavy ink clamps the central walls, broad reserves turn to cloud-sea, and two or three pines lean across a crag to anchor the view. Void and solid interweave to push space in layers, and the breath of the scene is calm and lucid—as if, on a frosty clear day, only the soughing of pines remains in the valley.
