Red Lychees

Red Lychees

Under cascading foliage, clusters of scarlet lychees blaze while a butterfly rests and a mantis lies in wait on the boughs, fullness and stillness answering each other within a veil of pale ink mist.

Rendered in meticulous gongbi, fine ink lines articulate veins and twigs, while layered color washes model the stippled skins and ripe volume of the fruit. The composition gathers dense on the left and opens to the right, the bunches tilting downward as reserved washes form a misted ground that thrusts the reds forward. A butterfly on the leaf and a mantis on the twig quicken the stillness, sharpening the contrast between cool blue‑greens and luxuriant vermilion.
