Blue Water Lilies

Blue Water Lilies

Amid an oceanic blue, water lilies glow softly with silver-gray petals and gold-white stamens, while vertical water traces like rain lines draw out a tranquil nocturnal echo.

Layered color-ink washes and stippling build a cool blue ground, the petals rendered with delicate overpainting that gives a powdery tactility, while the cores catch hints of yellow and greenish light. A crown of blossoms gathers across the upper field against a more open lower expanse, where descending vertical streaks and fine white beads fall like rain or like ripples stretched across water. Deep horizontal bands of blue slip between them like submerged shadows, heightening the sense that the flowers float in hush. The inscription and red seal at lower left offer a warm punctuation that steadies the work’s cool-toned cadence.
