Misty Valley with Waterfalls

Among clouded ravines and serried peaks, thundering falls plunge while a half-veiled village, a gliding boat, resting deer, and circling cranes braid motion and stillness into a moist, luminous world.

Rendered wholly in ink, the composition combines high and deep distance: cliffs flank the scene as three waterfalls pour into the valley; vapor and cloud are washed with wet ink, and far peaks with a pale orb emerge. The valley village is delineated in fine line, houses staggered among fields and hedges; in the foreground dense foliage, deer rest by the shore, a small boat threads the river, and cranes wheel beside the falls. Rubbing and stippling texture the rock, with tones grading from light to dark; the rush of water and the stillness of dwelling counterbalance one another, making the image at once grand and serenely refined.
